At least 38 people were killed in various Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon on Sunday, according to the country's Ministry of Health. In the village of Almat in Lebanon, a single airstrike killed 23 people.
Almat is a Shiite-majority village located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Beirut, in the Jbeil region. It is known as a stronghold of Hezbollah and is situated close to southern Beirut and eastern Lebanon. Since the end of September, Israel has carried out extensive bombing campaigns in these areas as part of its ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group.
In a statement issued by Lebanon's Ministry of Health yesterday, it was reported that 23 people, including 7 children, were killed in the Israeli attack on Almat in the Jbeil region. This figure is a revised count and not the final one.
The statement also mentioned that various body parts of the victims had been recovered from the site, and efforts are ongoing to identify them.
Al Jazeera’s reporter in Beirut, Imran Khan, reported that this was the second attack in the region since the intensification of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. He also stated that three medical workers were killed in an Israeli strike in Sidon, southern Lebanon, the same day. Imran added that it is now very clear that the heavy toll from the destruction in southern Lebanon and other areas is being borne by the civilian population.
Earlier, on Saturday, 53 people were killed, and at least 99 others were injured in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
